A window left open at night is the one request the neighbors make of Theo. He is a married man living beside a gothic pair whose faces keep appearing in his dreams, and somehow they seem to know it. His wife shares the house and, before long, a share of his curiosity. The neighbors move in a circle that includes a private club built around control and restraint. They want him to admit what he sees when he sleeps. Theo wants to know how they found out.

    The first meeting with the neighbors is brief and loaded. They tease Theo about the way he dreams of them and give him a single instruction for the next time it happens: keep the window open. The episode establishes how much they seem to know about his nights and how little he knows about them.
