Her best friend Rhea makes up the third player. The house belongs to a new family: his father married Emma's mother, and the two adults are asleep one floor up. Emma wants the evening to be anything but dull, and she has decided Nick will be the entertainment.

    The first dares are small: Nick must sit beside Rhea, then closer. Rhea aims for his hoodie before Emma calls that too easy and sends Rhea onto his lap until her next turn. A voice from upstairs asks them to keep quiet. Emma answers by changing the rules, whispers only, and claims every pick for herself before telling Nick to shut his eyes.
