A whistle cuts across the sand when a swimmer goes under off a private beach club, and the lifeguard on duty reaches him first. She is Sophie Dee, sure of herself and used to men losing their footing around her. The man she drags out is related to the owner by marriage, her husband's nephew, newly hired as cabana staff for the summer. The owner wants things kept professional. Sophie wants the new hire under her supervision, and he has little say in it.
