A champion's ribbon belongs to the bride, by custom, at the tournament held in the prince's last days before his wedding. Princess Maren is the bride his father chose a winter ago. Lady Antonella, his step-cousin, has ridden four days to arrive first. The two once spent a night together in the family home, and she has not let it go. The prince must honor the match. Antonella wants him to choose her before the vows are spoken.

    Episode 1: The ribbon goes astray

    Four days on horseback bring Antonella to the prince's side ahead of the bride. Princess Maren is announced to the court. After the tournament the prince gives his champion's ribbon to Antonella instead of his bride. She asks if he grasps what that gesture means, recalls their night and vows to seek him out during the banquet.

    Episode 2: Behind the feast curtain

    Maren tells the prince she may come to his door before the wedding night, against her mother's advice. At the feast Antonella notices he has not eaten and takes a seat beside him. She says she came to see whether his father's choice would keep him from her, calls a ribbon not enough and draws him behind a curtain as the toast begins.
