Episode by episode

A winning hand at a slot machine and a joke about a jackpot open the house party before the guests even arrive. Gretchen brings her boyfriend Slade to her father's beach house for a summer away, with her best friend Brittany along. Her father greets Slade with a mix of respect and sympathy. Holly, the stepmother, is far from what Slade pictured, and she asks whether she looks familiar. He thinks she does. Holly wants her history to stay hidden from her husband, and wants Slade's silence on her own terms.

    Slade arrives at the beach house, meets the father, Holly and Brittany, and stumbles over his words in front of Holly. Gretchen laughs it off as nerves. Alone, Holly asks if he recognizes her and admits she does not remember every man she has been with. She leaves him with an open invitation, and he leaves the evening unsettled.

At the top, she collects on the deal.
