A battered pickup slows on an empty desert road for a woman with her thumb out, and the driver cannot believe she climbs in. She asks first whether he is a killer, then accepts his answer. He is heading home, two hundred miles away, and she says she will go wherever he goes. She has just abandoned her boyfriend fifty miles back, at a gas station. The heat is brutal, she wants a shower, and he knows of a motel forty miles ahead.

    The driver picks up the hitchhiker, hands her a drink, and learns she walked out on her boyfriend. She complains about the heat and asks about a shower. At the motel there is a single room left, and before he can suggest anything else she takes it and tells him she does not bite.

    Episode 2: The call from Tyler

    She asks, teasing, whether he has ever brought a woman to a motel, then heads for the shower. Tyler calls, and she tells him they are finished for good. Shaken, she says she wishes more men were kind like the driver. From the shower she asks him for a towel and pulls him nearer each time he hesitates.
