A loose suitcase on the stairs sends Mona tumbling onto her stepbrother as they arrive at a grand house in Kent. They are staying for the summer with a wealthy English family who expect good manners and tea on time. The family has two sons and a daughter, Charlotte. Mona teases her stepbrother constantly and seems to enjoy rattling him. He wants to behave and make a good impression. Mona wants to stir things up.

    Episode 1: Arrival in Kent

    Mona lands on her stepbrother on the stairs and mocks his reaction, warning him that their hosts are very proper. She looks forward to meeting the family's two sons. Wandering the house, she teases him again. Charlotte appears to welcome them, and the stepbrother is instantly taken with her, at least until he realizes he has been daydreaming.

    Mona wakes him from his fantasy with an insult. Charlotte shows them to neighboring rooms. In a room that clearly belonged to one of the sons, Mona finds a personal toy and provokes her stepbrother with it. He begs her to leave before tea. She warns him off Charlotte, and an unexpected visitor arrives as the clock seems to stall.
